SKIPPERS PROFILE
GEORDIE
DICKSON
Skipper "Geordie"
DICKSON was born in Hartlepool in 1936.
At the ripe age of 16 years he enlisted into the
Royal Artillery as a boy entrant.
After 24 years "Geordie" retired and returned
back to civilian life and took up charter
angling as a profession operating from the Port
of Plymouth.
Over the next 25 years he ran and operated
vessels all with the now famous "Artilleryman"
name.
His anglers broke many records over the years
and the boat held the British Rod Caught Record
for Coalfish at 37lb 5oz.
During this angling period Geordie instigated the now well know
GUERNSEY TRIPS which have proved so successful
that now over 20 boats advertise this sort of
operation along the south coast.
As
a result of his wife's ill health "Geordie"
retired from charter fishing in the year 2000.
After 2 years his wife had recovered and he was
approached to skipper a Lochin 33 "C-CHEETA".
Over a period of the next 5 years he placed this
little known vessel on the Angling Map of the
United Kingdom.
With so much success the owner of the vessel
decided to build and design a new Catamaran. On
completion of the mold they were approached by
BLYTH WORKCATS so that they could produce a new
commercial range of vessels using the same mold.
The new "C-CHEETA" hull was produced in May 2005
and it was anticipated that she would be
completed for the start of the 2006 season.
However a new twist ensued when the owner at the
end of MAY 2005 "sold out" completely to BLYTH
WORKCATS and only informed "Geordie" when the
deal was done!
However all was not lost as BLYTH approached
"Geordie" to operate a Charter Boat for them
from Plymouth. This will be a new BLYTH CAT,
operational from June 2008. Of course she's
called C-CHEETA.
